Volkswagen entschuldigt sich für Voltswagen-Aprilscherz

Es sollte nur ein Aprilscherz sein: Die angeblich versehentlich zu früh geleakte vermeintliche Umbenennung in Voltswagen bringt VW in den USA Ärger. Nun versucht der Konzern, den Schaden zu begrenzen.

Einen Aprilscherz der missglückten Variante hat sich Volkswagen in diesem Jahr geleistet. Mit der vermeintlichen Umbenennung des Unternehmens in den USA in „Voltswagen“ wollte der Autobauer auf seine Offensive in der Elektromobilität aufmerksam machen. Der Schuss ging nach hinten los. Gerade in den USA, wo Volkswagen wegen des Dieselskandals ohnehin ein ramponiertes Image hat, hagelte es Kritik am Marketing-Gag. Dass der Aprilscherz dazu auch noch zu früh gestartet wurde, machte die Sache nicht besser. So sah sich VW bereits vor dem 1. April 2021 dazu gezwungen, dem Witz ein Ende zu bereiten und sich öffentlich für den Fehltritt zu entschuldigen.

Der Tweet am 31.03.2021 lautet:

“What began as an April Fool’s effort got the whole world buzzing. Turns out people are as passionate about our heritage as they are about our electric future. So whether it’s Voltswagen or Volkswagen, people talking about electric driving and our ID.4 can only be a good thing.”
